What De-Cluttering Guru Marie Kondo Misses
Marie Kondo’s extreme approach to decluttering creates rigid systems of living which cultivate a life of slavery, not freedom.
According to Kondo, Clutter is something to be dominated and purged completely. Doing this will make you happier, thinner, more vibrant and successful.
This limited mindset employs a relentless, one size fits all approach which drives cluttered broken states into rigid broken states.
This is what I think……
Clutter is an inescapable ingredient to our humanity. We all have CLUTTER.
Clutter serves us, most often in limiting ways, but we need to get curious with our clutter, not purge it.
If we approach decluttering purely from the physical dimension, we miss the integrated growth dimension of a mindset.
Most people grab for clutter’s secret lover, PERFECTIONISM, to focus SOLELY on the physical clutter.
The ping ponging from cluttered chaos to a perfectionism mindset is slavery……
People who have cluttering issues, have PERFECTIONISM issues…..
PERFECTIONISM unleashes punitive systems. PERFECTIONISM asserts dominance over the fragmented clutter, but does it every really win?
How often have you decluttered a room, implemented punitive systems, just to have it return back to its cluttered state within a few months or even a few days?
Trying to fix it, banish it, and organize it creates rigid circular behaviors filled with obsessive compulsive routines. It is a battle of misery, which is exhausting and isolating to all parties!
Clutter desperately needs a new structural home. We need an improved mindset. It is important to dig deeper in clutter and discovery the hidden meaning.
Hidden inside our clutter are stored messages and belief systems which desperately need our attention! Once we attune to these messages, we get to organize and claim a new experience with ourselves.
Each ROOM in our home offers tremendous opportunity to dig at these cluttered states in profound ways and evolve our mindset.
Once we have organized our internal cluttered states, we shift our experience with each room and gather a new clarity in how we want to belong to the room.
Integrating the clutter in creatively inspired ways activates deep connection with significant meaning.
Once we declutter OUR internal cluttered mindset, the room belongs to us in a more meaningful way. From this experience we can organize it, de-clutter it and transform it in a WAY that works for us!
